ZaxNet is a 2.4 GHz RF network for the distribution of remote control signals, timecode, IFB audio and metadata for production sound. It wirelessly links Zaxcom’s Deva/Fusion, digital recording wireless, encrypted IFB receivers and compatible digital slates into a single system for audio recording and metadata distribution.
The ZaxNet signal is generated by Deva/Fusion and broadcast via an IFB100 on a 2.4 GHz signal. The IFB audio, timecode, metadata and wireless remote control commands are then received by the ERX1, ERXD and TRX series digital wireless units.
The digital slate connected to an ERX1TCD will automatically display proper timecode and metadata as entered through the Deva/Fusion and distributed via the ZaxNet working automatically in the background.
ZaxNet will be available for all current Zaxcom hardware via a free software update.
- Wireless Distribution of Scene and Take metadata for automatic display on digital-slates
When the clapper is actuated, compatible slates will display the Scene and Take metadata along with timecode and user-bits as entered into the Deva/Fusion.
- Display of timecode and metadata on Zaxcom IFB receivers (ERX1 & ERX1TCD)
The ERX1 and ERX1TCD have a hold key so the script supervisor can easily take notes.
- Remote control of wireless microphone parameters
Commands include pre-amp gain, TX frequency, internal recording mode and transmitter standby.
- Remote distribution of timecode to Zaxcom digital recording wireless microphones (Pat. Pend)
Ensures the transmitter’s back-up recording timecode stamp matches that of the Deva/Fusion and camera.
- Wireless virtual multi-track playback of wireless transmitter recorded audio (Patented)
A free do–over, this feature will synchronize any number of Zaxcom wireless transmitters for timecode referenced playback so a Take can be re-recorded by Deva/Fusion with the original timecode as if it was being recorded for the first time. This will provide the Production Sound Mixer with the ability to remix a Take in the event the original recording needs to be changed for any reason. RF interference can also be eliminated in the re-transmission and remix of audio tracks.
- Control of wireless transmitter pre-amp gain from the trim knob of the attached Mix-8/Mix-12 control surface
With ZaxNet, the input trim knobs of the Mix-8/Mix-12 will directly control each transmitter’s pre-amp gain remotely in real time. This function highlights the advantage of the digital control surface method over a traditional analog mixing desk.
- Wireless recording mode control
ZaxNet will control the recording wireless transmitters to automatically start/stop recording with the Deva/Fusion, creating individual files per Take with matching timecode. As a result, since the built-in recorder is only recording during a Take, no private conversations will be recorded when the actor is not performing.
